VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) Baldhill Dam Resource Manager Scott Tichy with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers says they did everything they could to mitigate the loss of their summer rangers this summer.
But nothing panned out. Now, campers are left with fewer options.
Eggerts Landing, along with East and West Ashtabula Crossing will be without weekday camping this summer, limited to camping for Friday through Sunday stays while the Corps wrestles with a hiring freeze at the federal level.
Tichy says they attempted programs with various other departments, attempted to work out weekly transfers of personnel from St. Paul, as well as other options, but could not find a solution.
Campers could not be left without ranger support during the weekdays due to the security needed in the parks.
Mel Rieman will have weekday camping throughout the summer, and those that made reservations are going through the process of re-booking and other methods of handing the change.
