JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Authorities have identified 27-year-old Devin Quinn Fontenot as the suspect in an active shooter incident that led to an officer-involved shooting early Dec. 3 outside Fred’s Den in downtown Jamestown.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, Fontenot, a Jamestown resident, was armed with a rifle and refused to comply with an officer’s orders to drop his weapon. His actions endangered the safety of the officer and others in the area, prompting the officer to fire at the suspect. Fontenot was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds.
The incident began shortly after 1:17 a.m. when Stutsman County 911 dispatch received reports of a man in the parking lot behind Fred’s Den, armed with a gun and knife, following a physical altercation inside the bar. Callers reported the suspect was firing multiple rounds at the building before officers arrived.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation. The officers involved have been placed on standard administrative leave as the inquiry continues.
