VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Valley City, the Valley City Image and Beautification Committee and Open Door Center partnered this summer to place and care for 17 planters with blooming petunias along Main Street and Central Avenue.

The city provides the hanging equipment on the various poles up and down Main and Central and the watering equipment which includes a wand to reach the planters which are raised above the street. The city also puts up and takes the planters down each year. The Image Committee provides the planters with the petunias which are purchased at and planted by Riverside Gardens.

The Open Door Center individuals faithfully water the planters, usually daily, and store, maintain and winterize the city watering equipment.

“This is a terrific partnership,” states Sharon Buhr, Image Committee chair. “ None of these entities would be able to beautify Valley City with the hanging flower baskets alone. The Open Door individuals have done a fabulous job of watering these hanging baskets,” continues Buhr.

The Image and Beautification Committee is a volunteer group also committed to writing tree/shrub grants and caring for plantings placed on boulevards and public property in the city. With both Dutch Elm disease and the Emerald Ash Borer in town, there are numerous trees that are risk and new trees need to be planted as replacements.

The Image Committee also works in partnership with Dr. Bob Anderson, the Valley City Forester. Anyone interested in volunteering to be on the Image Committee should contact Sharon Buhr at 840-0973.
