VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – This week, the Valley City Public School District is highlighting District Goal 2, which is the percentage of our students in grades 3-8 and 10 who are proficient at or above grade level in MATH.  While we assess and monitor the progress of most all students in Math throughout the school district, our state measurement and accountability reports from the Department of Public Instruction focuses only on the specific grade levels.
Goal 2- Increase the Percentage of Students at or above Grade Level in Math
The percentage of students in grades 3-8 and 10 who are proficient or above grade level in MATH, as measured by the North Dakota State Assessment, will increase from 50% in April 2023 to 80% by April 2028.
2023- 50% of Students (Grades 3-8 and 10) were Proficient or Above Grade Level in Math at the end of the 2022-2023 School Year.
2024- 48% of Students (Grades 3-8 and 10) were Proficient or Above Grade Level in Math at the end of the 2023-2024 School Year.
2028- Our goal is by April 2028, 80% of Students (Grades 3-8 and 10) will be Proficient or Above Grade Level in Math.
The Implementation of new Assessment Programs (Interim and State Assessments) and Progress Monitoring of Students
Continuation of the MTSS Program at grades K-12 that is designed to meet students at their academic levels and provide interventions for students below grade level. Increasing kindergarten readiness through pre-school education programs
Superintendent Josh Johnson said, while our students scored well above the state average of 40% in Math during the 2023-2024, the percentage of students who were proficient or above grade level in our school district declined from 50% to 48% in grades 3-8 and 10.  It will be important to look at our strategies listed above to narrow down the reasons why are students are not scoring at or above grade level and provide interventions or changes in our instruction to support student growth in Math across the school district.  Again, we’ve highlighted the ND Insights Dashboard for more information on our student achievement at VCPS (https://insights.nd.gov/Education/District/StateAssessment/StudentAchievement/02002).
Next week, we will highlight District Goal 3, Choice Ready for Valley City Public Schools.
If you have any questions about our three district goals, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at the district office. Sincerely, Josh Johnson, Superintendent of Valley City Public Schools.
