BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler announced Thursday that Jamestown school board member Jason Rohr has been appointed to the state Board of Public School Education. Gov. Doug Burgum appointed Rohr to fulfill the term left vacant by Burdell Johnson, who resigned in August. Rohr’s term will run through June 30, 2026.

Rohr was selected from a list of four candidates recommended by a nominating committee comprised of educational stakeholders, a media release states. He will represent Burleigh, Stutsman, Eddy, Foster, Kidder, McLean, Sheridan, and Wells counties on the board. The Board of Public School Education consists of six governor-appointed members, each serving a six-year term representing designated regions of the state. Baesler also serves on the board as its executive secretary.

In addition to its responsibilities over North Dakota’s regional education associations, the Board of Public School Education also oversees the K-12 Education Coordination Council, which encourages stakeholder collaboration, promotes educational innovation, and advises the state Legislature. The board shares members with the state Board of Career and Technical Education, overseeing programs under the Department of Career and Technical Education.

The board typically convenes ten times each year, focusing on school district petitions regarding property transfers, reorganization, and potential dissolution.
