JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County experienced significant growth in visitors spending in 2023 according to the latest information from the North Dakota Department of Commerce.

In 2023, Stutsman County experienced a significant 24.4% increase in visitor spending compared to 2022, reaching a total of $81.15 million. This growth is a testament to the county’s successful tourism initiatives and its diverse attractions that continue to draw visitors from far and wide.

“We feel the current trend of visitor spending reflects our county’s growing appeal as a prime destination for travelers,” said Emily Bivens, Jamestown Tourism Executive Director.

Further breaking down the spending reported for Stutsman County, lodging saw $16.44 million, food and beverage $26.6 million, retail $13.12 million, recreation $11.96 million, and transportation $12.97 million.

“The lodging sector alone showcases the region’s robust hospitality,” Bivens stated. “Food and beverage purchases were the highest category, again highlighting the continued growth in our dining and entertainment provided to visitors.”

The increase in visitor spending has not only boosted local businesses but also generated significant state and local tax revenue, amounting to $7.71 million. This revenue is critical for funding public services and infrastructure projects that benefit the entire community.

The impact can also be found in employment. Tourism in Stutsman County supported 1,035 direct jobs and 1,348 total jobs, proving the vital role tourism plays in our local job market. “The increase in spending is a clear indicator of visitor interest in making Stutsman County a destination,” Bivens concluded. “We want to keep up this momentum and ensure visitors continue having memorable experiences that result in repeat visits and more stays.”
