JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A fatal rollover crash on Interstate 94, seven miles west of Jamestown, resulted in the deaths of two children and serious injuries to others, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported.
The accident happened just before 5 pm on Monday afternoon. A 1997 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control after being passed by a semi-truck. The vehicle veered off the road, rolled, and came to rest on its side in standing water.
First responders found two boys, ages 7 and 10, deceased at the scene. The other occupants, including the 30-year-old female driver were transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center by ambulance. A 9-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries was later airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo. The driver, who sustained serious injuries, was also transported to Sanford in Fargo. Four other children, aged 5 to 11, suffered minor injuries.
The crash, which involved only the Chevrolet Suburban, is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. All individuals involved in the crash are from Cleveland. The names of the juveniles will not be released, while the driver’s name will be made public on July 16.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Police Department, Jamestown Area Ambulance, Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown Rural Fire Department, North Dakota Department of Transportation, Red Cross, Sanford AirMed, North Dakota Game and Fish Department, and Stutsman County Emergency Management.
The investigation is ongoing.
