VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The school board accepted a state grant (The Best-in-Class Program) to provide funding to officially begin a new Pre-Kindergarten Program for 4-year-olds at Valley City Public Schools (VCPS). This program, beginning in the fall of 2025 at Jefferson Elementary School, will offer parents a free, five-day-a-week pre-kindergarten program.
Superintendent Josh Johnson said the VCPS will be partnering with Head Start and Sheyenne Valley Special Education to provide 4-year-old children with consistent routines and enriching learning opportunities through a play-based education program. The program will be led by licensed and qualified early childhood teachers from VCPS.  Please see the attached flyer to learn more about pre-k and the features of this program.
An early bird student registration process will be open initially for any parent who has already completed the pre-kindergarten interest survey. After this early bird registration process concludes on June 2nd, any remaining spots may be available for additional children in our community. This pre-k program will serve up to 40 students in two classrooms at Jefferson Elementary School with two licensed teachers and two support staff members. A special thank you to our teachers at Jefferson Elementary and across the school district for encouraging the beginning of this new program and helping us expand a critically important community-based service for 4-year-olds living in Valley City. An additional thank you to Amy Rogelstad and Tammy Hoggarth with Head Start (Community Action) for helping us to see an opportunity to partner together to serve the needs of all students in Valley City/Barnes County.
For additional information or questions, please contact Mrs. Becky Goven, Jefferson Elementary Principal, at 701.845.0622 or email becky.goven@k12.nd.us.
