VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – First responders in Valley City are receiving praise from the family of a 54-year-old woman who had to be revived after she was unresponsive during an event at the North Dakota Winter Show on Saturday, March 8th.
According to a spokeswoman with the Barnes County Ambulance, first responders were called to the scene for a female in respiratory distress about 2:45pm during the rodeo. She said Barnes County Ambulance had 2 crews on scene and were assisted by staff members of the North Dakota Winter Show, first responders from Valley City Fire Department, Sanborn Fire Department, as well as an off duty EMT from North Memorial Ambulance in Alexandria, Minnesota.
The woman was then transported to CHI Mercy Hospital ER in Valley City and later life-flighted to Sanford hospital in Fargo.
According to officials with the North Dakota Winter Show, the woman survived. She did “code out” at our building and we all felt she was not going to survive. But thanks to the fabulous medic team on sight that kept her alive and brought her back. In a hospital setting, “code out” generally refers to a medical emergency, often a cardiac or respiratory arrest, requiring immediate life-saving interventions.
On Wednesday, March 12th the woman’s family said our thanks to all the first responders and a huge thank you and kudos for your rapid response and for building a barrier around her for her safety and privacy during this incident.
